Hermes Agent needs a server that can keep its process running, execute tools and preserve working files between sessions. We require at least 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and root/SSH access, then rank eligible plans by ongoing cost, reliability, developer features, network quality and support. Cloud VPS and shared or WordPress plans must meet the same requirements to qualify.

OVHcloud combines root access with phone and email support at about $5.08 a month, keeping ongoing agent hosting costs low.
Plan: VPS-1 (2027)Hostinger's KVM 2 gives you root access for installing agent tools, with chat support available for hosting questions.
Plan: KVM 2Akamai Cloud offers root access and phone, ticket, email and chat support, giving your team several ways to resolve hosting issues.
Plan: Linode 4 GBVultr combines root access with optional managed databases for applications your agent uses, plus ticket and email support.
Plan: vc2-2c-4gbDigitalOcean pairs root access with ticket and chat support, with managed databases available if your agent's supporting applications need them.
Plan: Basic Regular 4 GiBContabo provides root access at about $4.93 a month, fitting agent deployments where ongoing server cost is a priority.
Plan: Cloud VPS 4Hetzner combines root access with ticket, email and phone support for teams comfortable managing the agent runtime themselves.
Plan: CPX22Providers change prices often, and we regularly verify prices against their own pricing pages, though small differences from current prices are possible. Prices checked 27 Sept 2026. Ranking uses US dollars at a fixed exchange rate; see the methodology.
Start with 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM when model inference runs through an external API, then measure your actual workload. The agent process, tool subprocesses and any browser sessions share memory with the operating system. CPU demand rises when tools compile code, process files or run concurrent tasks. Move up a plan when sustained memory pressure causes swapping or CPU contention delays tool execution. Leave headroom for updates and workload spikes, and watch disk growth from logs and working files. Local model inference needs separate sizing.
Only if the plan meets the resource requirements, provides root/SSH access and allows persistent processes. An SSH login alone is insufficient, so check these permissions before buying a shared or WordPress plan.
A GPU is unnecessary on the agent server when an external API handles model inference. If you also want to host the model, assess its memory and compute requirements separately from the agent runtime.
Treat the hosting cost and model API usage as separate budget items. Your total running cost also depends on the model service and any paid tools you connect.
Choose a server where you have root access for installation and administration, then run the agent under a dedicated user with only the permissions its tasks require. Keep credentials scoped to those tasks, as explained in our guide to agent secrets.
