OpenClaw needs a server that keeps its gateway running, preserves its workspace and lets you install the tools your agents use. We require 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and root/SSH access, then rank eligible plans by ongoing cost, reliability, developer features, network and support, with particular attention to cost and reliability.

OVHcloud combines root access with an average $5.08 monthly cost, plus phone and email support for hosting issues.
Plan: VPS-1 (2027)Hostinger's KVM 2 gives you root access to configure OpenClaw yourself, with chat support for hosting questions.
Plan: KVM 2Akamai Cloud pairs root access with ticket, email, phone and chat support, useful when your team needs different ways to troubleshoot hosting.
Plan: Linode 4 GBVultr suits OpenClaw alongside database-backed apps, with root access for agent tooling and optional managed databases for those apps.
Plan: vc2-2c-4gbDigitalOcean offers root access for OpenClaw and separate managed databases for companion apps, with ticket and chat support.
Plan: Basic Regular 4 GiBContabo's Cloud VPS 4 averages $4.93 a month, fitting a tight hosting budget while retaining root access for OpenClaw.
Plan: Cloud VPS 4Hetzner's CPX22 fits teams comfortable administering OpenClaw over SSH, with ticket, email and phone support for hosting issues.
Plan: CPX22Providers change prices often, and we regularly verify prices against their own pricing pages, though small differences from current prices are possible. Prices checked 27 Sept 2026. Ranking uses US dollars at a fixed exchange rate; see the methodology.
Use 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM as this comparison's starting floor for OpenClaw with hosted model APIs. The gateway, active sessions and tool processes consume memory; browser automation adds browser processes that can exhaust spare RAM. CPU demand rises during browser tasks, dependency installation and concurrent tool execution. Leave capacity for the operating system and updates, then measure usage during representative workflows. Move up a plan when memory pressure causes swapping or process termination, or sustained CPU saturation delays jobs. Size local model inference separately, because model requirements can dominate the server budget.
Ordinary shared and WordPress hosting generally does not give you the root access and persistent process control this setup requires. Choose a VPS unless the specific hosting product explicitly supports OpenClaw and meets the access and resource requirements.
This comparison requires 4 GB RAM and 2 vCPU as a starting floor, rather than a guarantee for every workload. Add memory when browser automation or concurrent tools cause swapping or processes to be killed.
You do not need a GPU on the VPS when OpenClaw calls hosted model APIs. If you want local inference, choose hardware around the model's memory and compute requirements separately.
Treat the hosting cost shown here as your server budget, and budget separately for model API usage. Also check whether your chosen configuration adds charges for backups, storage or other services.
Root access and hosting support do not establish that OpenClaw administration is included. Unless you purchase an explicitly managed service, plan to handle installation, updates, credentials and workspace backups yourself.
